《sonnet 124》詩人自認這份感情並非偶然，它穩穩佇立，無法被動搖。詩人將之比做異教徒、命運的私生子，意味著即使這份情感時而被眷顧，時而被迫害，也會為了愛的品德而赴死。

《sonnet 125》真誠的靈魂更勝於外在的美好。越是追求外在者，往往透支自己的能力，最後落得失去一切的下場。詩人藉此表達，自己能夠奉獻給少年的真心，雖然不富裕，卻是不受拘束，沒有算計，且只屬於少年。當這份素樸的真心，越備受質疑，就越能夠證明自己的真誠和其他追求者的不同。
