《sonnet 142》詩人辯證與愛人的關係，詩人自認這場愛情如同罪過一般，若愛人憎恨著詩人，此股憎恨便是來自詩人根深蒂固的愛。愛人在外尋歡作樂，如同欺騙他人的錢財，但話又說回來，愛一個人真的是犯罪嗎？若心存有慈悲，就能在悲傷在心中滋長時，免生遺憾。

《sonnet 143》詩人借用神話比喻自己在情感裡遭受遺棄，若愛人向外追逐，自己將如同棄子，苦苦追求著愛人的背影；然而若愛人願意回望自己，詩人必將回應這份情感。
