《sonnet 146》詩人云，靈魂自身正是罪惡的根本 ; 若生命如此短暫，並非用盡氣力裝飾其自身享樂，付出龐大的精力使自己歡愉，最後身體卻仍由腐蟲給繼承了; 因此，身體若是靈魂的僕人，應當修行身心。此外，更不要害怕死亡，因在死亡之後，若靈魂獲赦免，便不再存在對死亡的恐懼

《sonnet 147》愛如熱病，詩人卻如此渴望。然而，另一方面，詩人的理智也如同醫生，並不贊成詩人追尋愛的行為。如今，詩人已經理解慾望即是死亡本身，那曾經讓自己失去理智的愛，其實如同黑獄，深不見底。
